Galleria
The Vantage Galleria is a building, not a game with a score: four retail levels around a four-storey atrium, an undercroft car park, a roof terrace, and a skylight you can see from the ground floor. Four panoramic lifts run the full height and two service lifts do not. Twenty-eight escalators criss-cross the galleries, so you climb the way you would have to in the real thing — step off one, walk across the landing, step onto the next. Eighty-five units trade from nine until nine and then pull their shutters, one after another, while the muzak stops mid-phrase. Work through a shopping list, order lunch on level four, throw a coin in the fountain, buy a ticket and sit down in screen four — the film runs whether or not anyone does. Somewhere on one lift panel is a button that appears on no directory in the building. Everything — the terrazzo, the frameless balustrades, the shoppers and their carrier bags — is generated in code; no borrowed art.
