Calder Street

Walk a city street at any hour, in sun or rain. Nobody here follows a script: each person weighs what they need (coffee, shopping, a rest, a chat with a friend, a taxi home) and walks a route to it, waits for the green man or chances it, and turns to look when a supercar goes by or someone gets knocked down. Each driver has a temperament: some keep to the limit, some run the amber, some look at their phone at a green light and get honked at. Delivery vans double-park and the traffic pulls round them; taxis stop for people hailing. In Calder Motors, west of the junction, walk up to a car and press E to drive it out of the showroom, or press F and let it drive itself; it reads the lights, yields at zebras, waits for a gap to turn and overtakes vans. Hotel Aurelia stands east of the junction: walk in through its front doors to book a room, check in, ride the lifts and stay; your windows look out on this street, and when you walk back out the street has carried on without you. Your phone (P) has a live map, the weather, a camera, a robotaxi to summon, a radio, and Friends, where you can open a room and share the street with up to three others. The buildings and furniture are Poly Haven scans (CC0); the skies are photographed; the light is baked offline and the cars are generated in code. Best with a mouse and keyboard on a desktop graphics card.
